Year Wines Sausage in Bread
Year Wines Sausage in Bread | McLaren Vale, SA | 2020
Taste: As tasty as a hot dog fresh off the bbq with some tommy K, this year’s Sausage in Bread is fresh, juicy and dam right delicious. A blend of Grenache and Mataro that was left on skins for 3-6weeks before fermentation in neutral oak, it’s is tangy, slightly bitter and all about the sour cherries. Chill this wine down and then fill up your glass. Cheers!
Mood: Open this when you are feeling playful and want to add some zing to your day. Cool it down, grab some antipasti, pop the top and won’t look back! Boom.
Grass Roots and Chi: Year wines are a husband and wife team who first laid eyes on each other working at a cellar door in South Australia. Eight years on and two kids later they are working hard to produce minimal intervention wines that are super small batch from Mclaren Vale, with only 30-50 dozen being made of each varietal.
Their ethos is ‘Hard work in the vineyard and be hands off in the Winery’ with the grapes being sourced from sustainable vineyards and wild fermented in a mixture of older oak and stainless steel. They use gravity pumps to transfer the juice from tank to barrel and allow Malolactic fermentation to occur (producing those beautiful rich creamy textures). The wines are then bottled without fining of filtering.
