Sigurd Chenin Blanc
Sigurd Chenin Blanc | Eden Valley, SA | 2020
Taste: Subtle and elegant in its approach, this 100% Chenin Blanc spends 10 days on skins and sees secondary fermentation in 4-year-old Russian Oak. It’s Progressive and energetic with a core of luscious apple and pear, dusted with a sprinkle of spice and dried herbs. A nervy acid line holds the wine together to the finish, leaving floral feels and almond flavours lingering on.
Grass roots and Chi: Sigurd Wines is inspired by and based around winemaker Dan Grahams’ Great grandfather who travelled from Norway to Australia back in 1914. Sigurd learned the fastest way to get citizenship was to join the army, so off he went to fight overseas for Australia. He got caught up to no good after being shot so was sent back to the front lines in France (once recovered) as punishment, where he got shot again. Luckily this time it was only in the elbow which meant he was alive and well but useless at holding a gun so was sent back to Australia for good.
Winemaker Dan Graham inherited this ‘mischievous’ nature (we say no more) and so went about creating a range of wines that are a little mischievous, are not conventional and go against the grain.
His wines are all about creativity and all take on a minimal intervention style which utilise wild yeasts, no fining and zero additions besides a small amount of sulphur before going to bottle.
Drink now and until 2026. Vegan Friendly.
